Alzbeta was born in Bratislava, Slovakia, received M.Sc (1991) in Biophysics and Chemistry Physics from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia and PhD in Physiology (1995), Univ. Claude Bernard Lyon-1, France. She performed two post-doctoral trainings, first at Univ. of Sherbrooke, Canada and second at Univ. of Liverpool, UK. She founded laboratory for study of cardiomyocyte cell physiology at CHU Sainte-Justine, Montreal and laboratory of cell biophotonics at International Laser Centre Bratislava (ILC) Slovakia. Currently, she is the head of the Department of Biophotonics at ILC and associated professor at St. Cyril and Methodius University, Trnava, where she founded Department of Biophysics in 2015. She is specialist in biophysics, cell physiology and biophotonics, specifically oriented towards evaluation of processes that lies behind endogenous fluorescence of cells and tissues. Her latest work mainly focused at evaluation of metabolic oxidative state of living cells by time-resolved autofluorescence, specifically oriented towards non-invasive monitoring of NAD(P)H and flavin fluorescence. Recently, she is also implicated in evaluation of state of plants, namely algae, by time-resolved autofluorescence of their pigments.
